Preparing for a power outage can make the difference between calmly managing a temporary problem and a stressful and uncomfortable situation. Here are some tips to be prepared in case of a power outage at your home.
Preparation of alternative light sources
It's crucial to have a source of light easily accessible. A flashlight is the ideal tool, but you must know where it is and be able to find it even in the dark. Ensure you have spare batteries available, or even better, a fully charged rechargeable flashlight.
If you rely on your phone as a light source, keep in mind that this can quickly drain its battery. It's better to conserve your phone's battery for emergency communications.
Reassure the youngest
Power outages can be scary for young children. Preparing them for this eventuality by playing a "lights out" game can help them stay calm during a real outage.
Plan for candles
Candles are another emergency light source. Ensure you have candles and matches on hand. Remember that they can be dangerous if not used correctly, so be sure to place them on stable holders and out of reach of children or pets. Also, have a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.
Have your electrician's emergency number handy
Keep your electrician's emergency number easily accessible. At Bativolt, we recommend our clients to place our business card in the main electrical panel of their installation. This way, in case of an outage, you can quickly contact us. Additionally, if your electrical panel has been installed or renovated by our services, a sticker with the electrician's phone number in charge of the work is affixed to the panel. This allows our team, already familiar with your electrical installation, to assist you efficiently, even remotely.
By following these tips, you will be better prepared to handle a power outage, minimizing inconveniences and promoting a quick intervention of our Bativolt troubleshooting teams.
